Sean Donnelly is a filmmaker who works in animation, live action and documentary. He co-created the Comedy Central animated series JEFF & SOME ALIENS which starred Brett Gelman, Malcolm McDowell, Pamela Adlon, Keegan-Michael Key and Christian Slater. He's developed other TV shows with FOX, FX, Comedy Central & Adult Swim.
While still in film school at NYU, Sean began working on his first feature documentary about two obsessed Tiffany fans called I THINK WE'RE ALONE NOW. The film won the best documentary award at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal and played at Slamdance, IDFA, True/False and many other film festivals around the world. It was written about by Rolling Stone, Vice, Buzzfeed, Variety, The New York Times and many others.
Sean has directed music videos for Bo Burnham, Kirk Hammett from Metallica, Ghost, Tally Hall, The Mountain Goats and was nominated from a MVPA award for a video he co-directed with Jon Watts for The Spinto Band. He's directed commercials for Kate Spade, AOL, Scion, Chanel, and won a Clio award for his LADY AND THE DALE PROMO he directed for HBO.
Sean founded the animation company, AWESOME + modest, where he has overseen the animation for documentaries such as Netflix's Stamped From the Beginning, HBO's LADY AND THE DALE, Davis Guggenheim's Waiting For Superman and many more.
When he has time, Sean still likes to make short films for fun and throw them online.
He made a short documentary called QAMOM about his mom's decent into the world of online conspiracy theories that was featured as a Vimeo staff pick and then spread to many other corners of the internet.
Sean is currently in production on his first animated feature film called RIP OFF.
